Description

Number 21 is a house that has been converted into a shop, built around 1820 to 1834. It features stucco over brick with a concealed roof and a stucco side stack. The property includes cast- and wrought-iron railings, window boxes, and a porch.

The building is two storeys high with a basement and has three first-floor windows, one of which is on a curve to the right. The stucco detailing includes a band at the first floor, a crowning cornice, and a blocking course. The windows are 6/6 sashes, with the curved ones on the right having some renewed panes. The centre first-floor window is blind, and all windows are set in plain reveals with sills.

The entrance on the left features a part-glazed, four-panel door surrounded by fluted detailing and topped with a cambered overlight that has decorative glazing bars. Inside, the property retains original joinery and plasterwork, including cornices.

The porch displays a Greek key frieze and a double scroll motif on the uprights. The railings and gate feature an arrowhead design with urn finials on the stanchions, and there is an ornate grille at the basement window. Historically, Regent Street was originally lined with houses, boarding houses, and hotels. Number 21 is located on a corner site, adjacent to Number 20, with its right side facing Ormond Place.
