Description

Ormond Terrace consists of four terraced houses, now used as offices, along with attached railings to numbers 5, 6, and 7. These buildings were constructed around 1834 to 1840 and feature a stucco exterior over brick, with a concealed roof and brick and stucco stacks at the ends and party walls, all adorned with cornices. The wrought-iron railings and balconies include decorative lead tassels.

The terrace is three storeys high with a basement, and there are twelve first-floor windows, three for each house. The stucco detailing includes rustication on the ground floor that extends into voussoirs above cambered-arched openings, a band on the first floor, a crowning entablature, and a blocking course. The windows are 6/6 sashes throughout, with taller first-floor windows and ground-floor windows featuring cambered heads, all set in plain reveals with sills. The basement windows have been replaced.

The entrances are located on the right side, accessed by flights of roll-edged steps leading to four-panel doors with sidelights and cambered overlights that have decorative vertical glazing bars.

The individual balconies on the first-floor windows display a lozenge pattern inspired by LN Cottingham's designs. The railings to the left have pointed bars and dogbars, while the area railings to number 6 and the sides of the steps feature arrowhead designs. The railings remain along the sides of the steps to numbers 5 and 7, showcasing sticks and an X-motif.

Historically, this terrace is noted as laid out but not built on Merrett's Map of 1834. It forms a group with numbers 2, 3, and 4 Ormond Terrace and Madame Wright's at 1 Ormond Place.
