Description
Number 2 is a house, now used as offices, located on Albion Street in Cheltenham. It was built around 1820 to 1850 and has had some later additions and alterations, including 20th-century attic dormers. The building is constructed of ashlar stone and features a slate mansard roof that is hipped at the left end, with a stack at the right end. The property has a cast- and wrought-iron balustrade and balconies.
The exterior consists of three storeys with attics and three first-floor windows. The windows are 6/6 sashes throughout, with taller windows on the ground and first floors, all set in plain reveals with sills. There is a first-floor band and a cornice. The attic dormers feature 3/3 sashes, and all windows were replaced around 1990. The central entrance has a two-column Tuscan portico with engaged pilasters, a frieze, a cornice, and a blocking course. The entrance door is a six-panel design with side-lights and a segmental overlight. There is a similar two-window range on the left return.
The interior has not been inspected. A notable feature is the area balustrade with a cross motif on the right side. The left return has balconies on the first floor with scroll and lozenge motifs. This building forms a group with and abuts No. 2 North Place.
