Description
No. 53 (Crazy Kates) and No. 54 are a pair of attached cottages located on the foreshore of the harbour in Clovelly. They likely date from the 18th century and are constructed of coursed rubble with large blocks at ground level. The cottages have a slated roof with gable ends and two skylights, along with end brick stacks.
The buildings are two storeys high and feature a 2:3 window arrangement, with one and two-light casements that have small panes and glazing bars. There is a continuous balcony at the first floor level, supported by raking supports, which has a wooden balustrade and a lean-to slate roof. Two door openings lead onto this balcony, both featuring half-glazed doors, and there is also a further blocked door opening at ground floor level. All windows and doors are from the 19th century. The interior has not been seen.
