Description

No 43 (Rose Cottage) and No 44 are late 18th-century cottages located in Clovelly. They are constructed from whitewashed rubble and feature a slate roof with a clay ridge, gabled to the left and segmentally hipped to the right. There is an off-ridge brick stack on the left and another brick stack at the eaves level on the right rear corner, which is radiused.

The layout includes No 45, which has been altered to create a large single room on the ground floor with a gable end stack, while No 44 is a small cottage formed in an outshut of No 45. The buildings are two storeys tall, with the ground dropping steeply to the right and rear, creating a basement. The main facade faces south onto the street and has a width of three windows, featuring 16 and 20 pane 18th-century sash windows with shallow reveals and exposed sash boxes. There is a blocked window in the center of the first floor.

The ground floor has two door openings: one with a half-glazed door and another with a plank door, both covered by pent-slated hoods. Additionally, there is a door opening to the basement level on the radiused corner, which has a plank door. A lean-to with a slate roof is located on the left return, and there is a stack with a brick shaft. A 19th-century lamp is mounted on a wrought iron bracket on the right corner. The rear elevation is made of brick and features 19th-century two-light casement windows. Inside No 45, there is a fireplace with a wooden bressumer.
