Description

73 High Street is a cottage that features a raised plaster datestone on the front reading "C.H. 1912," which indicates a rebuilding, likely on an earlier site. The exterior is roughcast and whitewashed, topped with a gable-ended slate roof divided into two sections. The roof on the left is hipped and has a modillion eaves cornice, with a brick stack rising at eaves level on the extreme left.

The plan consists of a single room depth with a central entrance hall flanked by rooms. The front facade is divided into two sections; the left section slightly projects and has a single two-light casement on the ground floor. The right section features two windows on the first floor, including a 20th-century two-light and a three-light casement with square-paned leaded lights. On the ground floor, there is a square-sided bay window from the 20th century with 36 panes and glazing bars, adorned with barley-sugar twists at the corners and a frieze of carved and painted wooden fruits from Oberammergau, Germany. A hipped slated hood covers this bay window and extends over the doorway to the left, which has a half-glazed door framed by an architrave with additional carved wooden fruits.

The left return includes two two-light casements with leaded lights and an iron lamp bracket supporting a small lantern-type light. A barometer in a glass case is set into the wall. At the rear, there is a parallel range with a gabled slate roof and an end brick stack, featuring two sash windows with glazing bars on the first floor. To the rear left, a slated lean-to has a doorway with a plank door and glazed toplights. The interior has not been inspected.
