Description
Nos 78 and 79 are a house and shop, likely from the 19th century, but significantly rebuilt in the early 20th century by Christine Hamlyn. The building is rendered and whitewashed, featuring a sham timber-framing design on the gable end that faces the road. It has a slate roof on the gable ends and two central squat brick ridge stacks. The structure is rectangular in plan and has three storeys. The roadside front includes a simple late 19th or early 20th century shopfront on the ground floor, with large single-pane casements flanking a 19th century six-panelled door. The gable wall above is blank except for the false timber-framing. The most interesting aspect is the side facing the sea, which also has three storeys and features three sets of windows arranged in a 3:1 pattern, with two and three-light 19th century casements that have small rectangular panes. Two window openings are blocked, but their reveals and openings are still visible. The elevations facing the hillside include two slated lean-tos. The interior has not been inspected.
