Description
57 and 58 The Quay are a pair of cottages built in a single range, with a datestone on the front indicating a restoration in 1890, although the core structure likely dates back to the 18th century. The cottages are constructed of coursed rubble, with some whitewash on the ground floor, and feature a gabled slate roof with deep eaves, along with a rendered and a brick ridge stack.
The buildings are rectangular in plan and consist of two storeys and an attic, which includes three front-facing gabled dormers with deep eaves. The first floor has two sets of 2:2 windows, which are late 19th-century two-light cruciform wood casements with leaded square-paned lights. Additionally, there are smaller late 19th-century two-light casements located under the eaves. A continuous projecting balcony runs across the first floor, featuring a balustrade made of cast-iron latticework and similar posts that support a hipped slated canopy, all resting on posts from the ground floor. There are two door openings on the ground floor; to the left is a half-glazed door, and to the right is a plank door. The cottages are attached to No 55. The interior has not been seen.
