Description
No. 1 (Corner Cottage) and No. 2 are a pair of cottages located in Kingham West End. They date from the late 17th century and have undergone later additions and alterations. The cottages are built from regularly coursed marlstone rubble and feature straw thatch roofs.
No. 1 is two storeys high, while No. 2 has one storey and an attic. No. 1 includes two 19th-century casements on each floor, with the first-floor windows positioned directly below the eaves. The entrance is located at the right gable end, which has an integral stack with a 20th-century brown brick shaft. No. 2 has a three-light late 20th-century casement on the ground floor and a raking eaves dormer on the far right. It also has an integral end stack to the left, similar to that of No. 1. The entrance is through a 20th-century lean-to on the right, which, like the lean-to attached to the gable end of No. 1, is not of special architectural interest.
These cottages are part of a notable corner group that includes Honour Oak, Thrush Cottage, and Westward Cottage.
