Description
Cambria is a house located on Marine Parade in Shaldon, dating from around 1830, although it is a remodelling of an earlier structure. The building is part of a terrace of three houses, with its entrance at the rear. It features painted incised stucco, likely over cob and rubblestone, and has a hipped slate roof that slopes to the right.
The house is two storeys tall with an attic and a semi-basement, and it has a two-window range. Notable exterior features include a hipped-roofed dormer, a continuous coped cornice, a cornice band, and rustication on the basement with a platband above. The first floor has 6/6-pane sash windows, while the ground floor has curved frames for the sashes. To the left, there is a shallow curved bay with 10/10 panes, and the right-hand corner has 8/8 panes. There are 20th-century additions at the rear.
Historically, this terrace was a remodelling of a former warehouse linked to the salt cod trade, and it boasts an elegant facade highlighted by its shallow curved bays.
