Description

Orchard House is a house dating from around 1830 to 1840, with an enlargement in the mid-19th century. It is built of painted stucco with a slate roof, featuring a gable end on the right and a hipped roof to the front extension, characterised by deep eaves. The house is double-fronted, with two principal rooms, a central hall, and a lateral staircase situated to the rear of the front right-hand room. It has two storeys and an attic storey containing a casement window. A plat band and a quoin pilaster are visible at the right end. The facade features a three-window range, with a curved bay on the left end, creating a symmetrical arrangement of windows. The front door is semi-circular headed and features a four-panelled door with a fanlight above. There is a twelve-paned hornless sash window above the door, and a sixteen-paned sash to the right over an eight-over-twelve-paned sash window. Blind window openings are present on the left side of each floor, but they retain their horizontal sliding louvred timber shutters, along with the principal window openings. The curving bay on the left-hand side features twenty-paned sash windows on each floor. A single dormer with a hipped roof is also present. The inner lobby door has a two-panelled base and an upper glazed section comprised of four panes with margin bars, above a two-paned overlight featuring margin bars and coloured glass. The peculiarity of the interior plan arises from the addition of the front wing to the original facade, which previously continued the line of terraced houses to the left. The interior has not been inspected.
