Description
Clochemerle is a house located on The Strand in Shaldon, dating from the early 19th century with later alterations in the 19th century. The building features painted roughcast and a slate roof with rendered stacks at the gable ends. It has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys high with a three-window range. There is a plain eaves band. To the left, there is a wide, two-storey flat-roofed segmental curved bay that contains three 6/6-pane sash windows in curved frames on each floor, topped with a painted timber frieze and cornice. The other windows are 20th-century metal replacements of 19th-century plate-glass sashes, which are set under moulded cornices on consoles. The main entrance features a 19th-century six-panel door, which is sheltered by a deep timber porch with a segmental-arched entrance flanked by incised panels. The interior has not been inspected.
