Description
17 The Strand is a house positioned at a right angle to the road, dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century, with alterations made in the mid and late 19th century. The building is roughcast, likely over red sandstone rubble and cob, and features a slate roof with brick stacks. It has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys tall with a symmetrical three-window arrangement. The exterior includes a modillion cornice, late 19th century plate-glass sash windows, and a mid-19th century half-glazed door with margin panes, all set beneath a trellised porch. Inside, the altered staircase retains a mid-19th century wreathed rail and curtail step, along with a semi-elliptical-arched recess featuring a keystone on the ground floor. The interior also includes mid-19th century cast-iron register grates on both the ground and first floors, and late 19th century four-panel doors.
