Description

This is a 17th-century barn situated approximately 25 metres east of Whetcombe Farmhouse. The barn is constructed of cob with stone rubble footings, originally featuring a half-hipped thatched roof, now replaced with corrugated iron. It has a rectangular plan and two storeys. The north wall incorporates a small, old, two-light oak unglazed window in the middle, and a wide doorway on the far right. A further door is located on the middle of the west wall, originally with a thatched canopy under a half-hip roof. The interior retains the original three-bay oak roof structure, showcasing lapped dovetail collar joints and trenched purlins. A recess is present at the east end of the north wall, possibly for an original stair. The ground floor is cobbled, with a drain. Old shippon partitions divide the ground floor into three separate standings.
