OTTERY ST MARY WIGGATON Barn immediately south of Burrow Hill Farmhouse

Barn. C17; extended C19. Unrendered cob on stone rubble plinth. Thatched roof with half-hipped ends. PLAN: 3-bay barn with double-doors at front to central threshing bay; east bay partitioned off later and floor inserted; single storey stone range added to rear [south] of east bay. EXTERIOR: North front has central doorway to threshing bay with chamfered frame and plank double doors and thatched eaves above carried down to form canopy; to left a smaller doorway with plank door. Rear [south] weatherboarded on left, central doorway with plank doors and stone rubble wing on right with thatched gable-ended roof. INTERIOR: Complete 3-bay roof with two jointed cruck trusses, the east with dovetail lapped collar and with later partition, two tiers of trenched purlins and diagonally trenched ridgepiece, common-rafters intact. Later loft floor in east bay. A fine example of an unaltered C17 cob barn with its original roof structure.
