Description
This is a barn located south east of Mount House, dating from the late 17th century. It features plastered cob walls on a stone rubble plinth, with some areas rebuilt in stone rubble and the east end wall reconstructed in the 20th century using concrete blocks. The roof is made of corrugated sheet steel with half-hipped ends.
The barn has a 5-bay layout with cart entrances in the central bay. The north front includes a cart entrance with plank double doors, and some plaster has fallen away, revealing the cob underneath. The east end wall, rebuilt in concrete blocks, has metal casement windows. The rear wall is constructed of stone rubble and has a wide doorway at the center, which is boarded above.
Inside, the barn features a 5-bay roof supported by side-pegged jointed cruck trusses, which have high slightly cambered mortice and tenoned collars, along with three tiers of trenched purlins and a diagonally-set ridge-piece. Most of the common rafters remain intact, although the cruck-post to the left of the north doorway is missing.
