Description

The Old Rectory is a house with a late 16th century core that was enlarged and altered in the 18th and early 19th centuries. It is constructed of red sandstone random rubble, featuring expressed quoins on the cross wing. The roof is slate with ridge tiles on the cross wing, and there is an external stack on the left with brick chimneys. The original block faces south and includes a north/south cross wing. The building is two storeys high with three bays on one side and one bay on the other. It has sash windows in segmental headed openings with rusticated jambs, and on the ground floor to the left, there is an early 20th century splayed bay window. The entrance is located on the west front, accessed through a single storey restored four bay verandah, which has a stone plinth with wooden four centred arches and a tiled roof. The east elevation features a pedimented centre distinguished by quoins, while the rear elevation has a square headed doorway with a sub-medieval stud and plank door adorned with decorative hinges. There is also an 18th century long staircase window with leaded panes, and to the east, there is a projecting rendered wing with a segmental headed bow window.
