Description
Higher Barnes is an early 17th-century, two-storey building located at right angles to the lane and to the east of Crofter's Court. It is constructed of cob and features a hipped thatched roof. The building has a small shallow splay bay window at the first floor on the north end, which is canted on shaped brackets. It includes casement windows, buttresses, and a massive square central brick chimney.
Inside, there is a massive rear door frame inscribed with "MAD RC 1641 - FEBREY." The interior showcases massive hewn beams with wide chamfers, timber-framed crosswalls, wide fireplaces with stop-chamfered beams, and wide-boarded doors with strap hinges on lugs. The building also has heavy rafters.
Higher Barnes, along with Lower Barn, Orchard Green, and Crofter's Court, forms a group.
