Ivygarth And Attached Walls And Gate Piers

Ivygarth is an early 18th-century house, altered in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of painted incised stucco with a slate roof and rendered stacks to the gable ends. The house has a double-depth plan and a symmetrical three-window facade. The windows are mid-19th century plate-glass sashes with a distinctive pattern formed by two panes to the margin lights; those on the ground floor are tripartite. Louvred shutters are likely 20th century. Chamfered rusticated quoins are visible on the front elevation, but they do not extend to the parapet. The front door is a half-glazed six-panel design with an overlight, set in a doorcase with raised panels in the reveals and soffit. A prostyle porch features incised square columns and an entablature, with a 20th-century trellis to the sides.

The interior includes six-panel doors and panelled shutters to the front and rear of the ground floor, an open string staircase with fretted ends, turned newels, and a swept swan’s neck handrail. A five-bay collar-truss roof is present, with wide oak floorboards and an early 18th-century two-panel door.

The front garden is enclosed by a rendered rubble stone wall approximately 1.5 metres high, extending some 7 metres to the left and 10 metres to the right, for a total length of approximately 16 metres. It has pyramidal-capped gate piers in the centre, a 20th-century gate, and a pebble path.
