Description
Brecon Cottage and Briar Cottage are a pair of early 19th-century houses located on Albion Street, Shaldon. The houses are constructed of painted roughcast with continuous slate roofs, featuring brick stacks to the parapet walls and left gable end. Each house has a double-depth plan, with a single-storey extension to the left-hand house (No.15) and a two-storey rear wing with a hipped roof to the right-hand house (No.16).
The exterior presents a symmetrical three-window arrangement to each house. No.15 features 6/6-pane sash windows, some with crown glass. The former six-panel door is now half-glazed and has panelled reveals and soffit to the doorcase, along with a trellised porch. No.16 has a dentil cornice and 1980s fenestration, including a horned 6/6-pane sash window at eaves level and 8/8-pane sashes to the ground floor without horns. The doorcase to No.16 features panelled pilasters, reveals, a soffit, overlight, and a 20th-century pediment. The right return of the rear wing has a 6/6-pane sash window to the first floor. The interior has not been inspected.
