Description
The London Inn is a public house located in Shaldon, dating from the early 19th century, likely a remodelling of an older structure. It features painted roughcast, possibly over cob and rubblestone, with a slate roof that has a half-hip to the front and a forward-facing gable. The roof has a ridge stack on the left side and another on the front right slope. The building is L-shaped, with a lateral stack on the cross wing to the left and an internal stack on the right.
The exterior is two storeys with an attic and has a four-window range. There is a 20th-century attic window at the eaves of the half hip on the left, while the first floor has 19th-century horned 6/6-pane sash windows. The ground floor features 6/6-pane tripartite sashes, with the two left ranges having louvred shutters. To the left of centre and at the far right are 19th-century four-panel doors, each under a pent slate roof supported by brackets. A set-back range on the far left includes a door with a similar roof, which is supported by square timber columns. The interior has not been inspected but is said to have been altered.
