Description

No. 26 Fore Street is a house with a shop at the front, dating from the early 19th century, and may be a remodelling of an earlier building. It features rendered rubble walls and a gable-ended asbestos slate roof. The layout of the house is not entirely clear, but it likely consists of two main rooms, with the shop added to the front of the left-hand room, which is contemporary with the house's facade. The building is two storeys tall, with a single-storey shop on the left side.

The house has an asymmetrical three-window front, with early 19th-century sash windows on the first floor that are flush with the outside wall. The two outer windows have 16 panes each, while the central window has 12 panes. On the ground floor, to the right of the shop, there is a late 20th-century casement window with small panes. The shop front, dating from the early 19th century, features pilasters with incised ornaments and a reeded frieze. The original glazed shop door has decorative marginal glazing. At the rear of the shop, there is a similar door that provides access to the house and features a rectangular fanlight above. The interior has not been inspected. This building is a relatively unusual example of an early 19th-century shop front that remains in a fairly unaltered state.
