Description
The Kingskerswell War Memorial, erected in 1921, honors local men who lost their lives in the First World War and later commemorates those who died in the Second World War. This memorial is made of granite and features a freestanding cross on a three-tier hexagonal base. It is located beside a road junction within a semi-circular paved area, which is enclosed by a curved granite stone rubble wall that ends with square piers topped with flat square stone slab copings.
At the base of the cross, there is a square bronze plaque inscribed with the words: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD - AND - IN MEMORY OF THE BRAVE MEN OF - KINGSKERSWELL - WHO DIED FOR KING AND COUNTRY - IN THE GREAT WAR - 1914 - 1919 - GREATER LOVE HAS NO MAN THAN THIS THAT A MAN LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS." Below this plaque, another bronze plaque lists the thirty-six names of the Fallen. Additionally, a bronze plaque on the middle tier of the base states "AND IN THE WORLD WAR 1939-1945," followed by the names of seven more Fallen soldiers.
