Description

Dobbin Arch is a road bridge over a railway line, built between 1846 and 1848, designed by engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel. The bridge is constructed from limestone blocks with dressed coping stones and features brick arches. It has three-span elliptical arches, with slightly projecting pilasters positioned between the arches and a moulded stringcourse above. In 1846, the South Devon Railway received permission to build a branch line from Newton Abbot to Torquay, which included this bridge, and the line was opened in December 1848.
