Description
No. 83 Bitton Park Road is a mid-19th century house, part of a pair, located next to the Golden Lion public house. The building features painted stucco with wide bracketed eaves and a slate roof that is hipped to the left, with chimney stacks at the party wall. It has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys tall with a symmetrical three-window arrangement.
The exterior includes a substantial enclosed porch supported by paired pilasters, which hold up a semicircular arch, a heavy cornice, and a blocking course above double half-glazed doors with margin panes and an overlight. The first-floor sash windows feature three vertical panes in each sash, with a 6/6-pane sash to the right and a late 19th-century canted bay with 2/2-pane sashes to the left.
Inside, there is an open-well open-string staircase at the rear, which has stick balusters, a wreathed handrail, a curtail step, and a turned newel. The interior also features moulded architraves around four-panel doors and panelled shutters on the ground floor. The front left ground-floor room has a white marble fireplace, while both ground-floor rooms on the right have coloured marble fireplaces.
