Description
The Old School House and Cottages is a former village school and schoolmaster's house, dating from around 1840. It is constructed of stone rubble and features a slate roof with stone coping on the gable ends. The school, located at the right-hand (west) end, is a single-storey structure that includes five chamfered stone cross-mullion transom windows and a left-hand doorway set in a chamfered opening with a polygonal head and a square fanlight above. There is a projecting chimney stack with set-offs at the centre of the front. A lean-to at the west end has a gabled porch and a small stone gabled bellcote above the end gable. The gabled crosswing at the opposite (east) end serves as the schoolmaster's house, featuring chamfered window openings on each floor, with two-light windows on the ground floor, a single light on the first floor, and a small slit in the gable above. The east front has three bays, with the centre bay slightly advanced and chamfered corners.
