Description
The Church House Inn is a public house that was formerly a church house, dating from the 16th century or earlier. It underwent significant alterations and remodeling in the early 19th century, featuring Gothic-style windows. The building is constructed from stuccoed stone rubble and has a low-pitched slate roof with gabled ends and large two-storey lean-tos on either side. It stands two storeys high and has a four-window front, with the end windows located in the lean-tos.
Notable features include unusual concave pointed arch (tented) windows with sashes of the same shape, complete with glazing bars and narrow margin panes, as well as later boarded shutters. At the center of the facade is a medieval chamfered pointed arch stone doorway, which is set back behind the early 19th-century facade. There is a similar doorway at the rear. The front also retains an old plank door, while a 20th-century pointed arch doorway is located to the right, and a small 19th-century shop front is to the left. Rendered chimney stacks are present at the gable ends. The interior has been much altered, with the cross-passage partitions removed and the ceiling beams either taken out or concealed.
