Description

This is a narrow frontage house located on the corner of Brownston Street in Modbury, dating from the early 19th century. It features Flemish bond brickwork, some slate hanging, and a slate roof. The street-facing side is three storeys high with one window, showcasing a full-height canted bay with a flat roof. The bay has sash windows with glazing bars in the upper sash at each level, and small slated splayed spandrels beneath each window. To the left, there are three granite steps leading to an early 20th-century part-glazed door topped by a radial fanlight and fluted frieze, set back in reveals with triple-reeded pilasters at the imposts and bases. Each side of the bay has a brick parapet and brick coping.

The left return is plain brick with a small casement window in the gable, while the right return is partially slate hung with a stone flush plinth and four 20th-century casements set back in the centre. The gabled rear wall is finished with asbestos cement slate. Each wing of the house is three storeys and has two windows; the left wing features a four-light wood casement above a three-light window with hexagonal leading, over another four-light window with glazing bars. The right wing has a door beneath a glazed lean-to porch. At the back of the property, on the left side of the site, there is a high brick wall that extends the full depth of the site and partially returns across the end.
