Description

Hillcrest is a house located at the end of a row, built in the early 19th century. The exterior is rendered and designed to resemble ashlar, with a slate-hung return wall on the right and a slate roof. The building has two storeys and features two windows: 16-pane sash windows on the ground floor and 12-pane sash windows above, all with alternating quoins and splayed voussoirs topped with a vermiculated keystone. At the eaves, there is a small semicircular pediment covering the position of the roof valley.

The central entrance door is set back in deep reveals and is accessed by four stone steps with nosings. It is a four-panel door from the 19th century, complete with a fanlight, pilasters with capitals, and a moulded architrave. Additionally, there is a plank door on the far left within a plat-band surround, leading to a throughway.

The right return wall is fully slate hung and features a 12-pane sash window in a trompe l'oeil surround above a panelled door with a deep overlight. This is framed by a heavy pilaster surround and a deep stone canopy with a moulded edge supported on brackets. The building has parallel hipped roofs with a central valley that runs at right angles to the street, which includes a valley stack. Hillcrest appears to have been constructed to match the adjacent property, No 19, which is situated beyond a deep forecourt leading to Hillside.
