Description
Pound House and the walled garden at the rear are a cottage from the 18th century located on the south side of The Square in Witheridge. The building is rendered, likely over a rubble core, and features a hipped thatched roof with a central stack that has a 19th-century brick shaft, along with a slated lean-to at the rear. The cottage has a layout of two large rooms with a central axial stack, and the staircase runs along the side of the stack; partitions were removed in the 20th century.
The exterior is two storeys high with a symmetrical arrangement of windows, featuring 2:2 openings. It has 19th-century casements with horizontal glazing bars. The door is off-centre to the right and is a 20th-century half-glazed door. On the ground floor, there are two 2-light 19th-century casements with horizontal glazing bars facing The Square, and a 5-light dormer with a thatched bonnet-hood is present on the first floor.
The interior has undergone significant alterations. The roof on the right side has straight principals and appears to be from the 18th century. The walled rear garden features cob walling, some of which has slate capping, along with rubble walling and areas of whitewash.
