Description
99 and 100 Pilton Street is a house that is currently used as a shop with accommodation. Originally, it served as a shop with accommodation and a separate cottage. The building dates from the late 16th century to early 17th century and has undergone later alterations. It features plastered stone walls and an asbestos-slate roof, with stacks that are not visible from the front.
The structure is a single-depth main range, two rooms wide, and formerly included a cartway to the right. A rear addition creates a double-depth range. The building is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical three-window arrangement. On the right side, there is a 20th-century plate-glass shop window with a small window next to it in a blocked cartway entrance. To the left of the shop window, there is a 20th-century half-glazed shop door, and a small-pane door to the left that previously led into the separate cottage. The first floor has three 16-pane sash windows, although there was originally another window in the center.
Inside, the ground floor features two chamfered oak cross beams with step stops. The narrow left-hand room has a moulded cross beam at the partition with the adjoining room on the right. There is evidence of a former winder stair located at the rear center of the main range, which was removed in the last ten years. The first floor is plain, and the roof timbers are said to have been replaced during renovations in the late 20th century.
