Description

18 and 19 Pilton Street is a house that has been subdivided and now includes a shop. It was likely built in the early 19th century and altered in the late 19th century. The front is made of painted brick in Flemish bond, while the ground floor is rendered. The roof is slated and features crested red ridge-tiles. The building appears to have a single-depth front range that is two rooms wide, which has been enlarged to double-depth with a rear wing on the right.

It stands two storeys high and has a three-window range. The central doorway is flanked by a triple-sashed window with a segmental arch on the left. To the right, there is a shop front with a four-paned canted display window and a door on either side; the left door is half-glazed with 19th-century moulded panels in the lower part. A wooden entablature runs above the entire ground storey and breaks forward around the shop front.

In the upper storey, all the windows are segmental-arched and triple-sashed, similar to the left window on the ground storey. Each of the four windows has a configuration of six over six panes in the center and two over two panes at the sides. The patterned brick eaves cornice is likely a late 19th-century rebuild. The interior of No. 19 was inspected only on the ground floor, which has no visible features of interest, although there may be some details concealed by plaster or boarding.
