Description
23 and 25 Derby Street is a house that is now used as a shop. It dates from the early 18th century and incorporates a building from the 16th or 17th century at the rear. The front is made of brick with stone dressings and has a plain-tiled roof, while the rear section is constructed from coursed and squared rubble.
The building has three storeys and a two-window range. The ground floor features a projecting shop front that was added in the late 20th century. Above this, there are two 3-light casement windows with flat-arched brick heads and painted stone keys. The attic storey has similar low windows, but these are 4 lights. The eaves cornice is dentilled, and stone quoins are visible at the left-hand angle. The gables are coped with moulded kneelers on either side, and there are stacks at the end walls.
The earlier rear range is a lower two-storey building with a single inserted 3-light casement window on the ground floor and a 2-light plain chamfered stone mullioned window above. The interior has not been inspected.
