Description
Woodsmoke Cottage is a detached cottage, formerly known as Denis's Farmhouse. It likely dates from the early 16th century and has undergone later extensions and alterations. The building features plastered cob with stone footings, and the rear wall has been rebuilt in brick. It has a gabled-end thatched roof and is designed as a 3-room, cross-passage house with 19th and 20th-century extensions on both sides. The cottage is 1 and a half storeys tall.
The front of the old cottage has a two-window range, with upper two-light windows positioned under eyebrow eaves. There is a porch with a catslide roof that is glazed, and it has two and three-light windows on either side, with the latter featuring a 19th-century casement. The right-hand extension includes a 20th-century three-light window and a lean-to conservatory at the end. On the rear, an upright support of jointed cruck is visible in the rebuilt wall. The interior has not been inspected, but the occupier believes the roof to be smoke-blackened.
