Description
Rose Cottage is a detached cottage dating to the late 17th century. It is constructed of roughcast cob on stone footings, with a thatched roof that is hipped at the left-hand end and gabled at the right. Originally a two-cell structure, the cottage now has one room on the ground floor and two rooms on the first floor, with a 20th-century extension to the right-hand end. An internal stack is located on the left-hand side, featuring a brick shaft.
The front elevation has two windows on the first floor, both 2-light casements. One window dates to the 18th century, and both have a lintel at eaves level. The ground floor has three 20th-century casement windows, and the central window was formerly a doorway. A timber open porch is positioned at the left-hand end, with a doorway surround featuring a scratch moulding. The rear elevation features an early 19th-century casement window on the ground floor, and a 20th-century casement window above.
Inside, there are three chamfered ceiling beams. Two have hollow step stops, while the beam to the left-hand end is only chamfered on the porch side, indicating it is a reused beam. The roof structure comprises long straight principals, collar joints which are pegged, and apex carpentry that is not visible.
