Description

The White House, also known as Ebford House, is a substantial detached house built in the early 19th century. It features a stuccoed brick exterior and a gabled-end slate roof. The layout includes a central entrance hall with principal rooms on either side, stairs located at the rear of the entrance hall, and service rooms also at the back. The house stands three storeys tall and has a symmetrical front with five windows. Notable architectural details include rusticated quoins, a moulded cornice, and a parapet.

The second and third floors have hornless sash windows, with the second floor featuring windows with 12 panes and the third floor having windows with 3 panes up and 6 panes down. The ground floor has tall, later 19th-century casement windows with transoms, along with a nearly identical central door. A verandah supported by simple paired posts has a concave roof.

The end elevations are marked by prominent external stacks that occupy most of the wall space, with the parapet ramped on either side and cogged brick caps on the chimney shafts. The rear of the house has irregular fenestration, with three of the four third-floor windows matching those at the front. The first floor includes one 12-pane hornless sash window and another with 8 panes under a segmental arch, along with an additional 12-pane sash window and a tripartite 4:8:4 pane sash window on the ground floor. There are also two 1980s windows, one inserted at the first-floor level and another in the right-hand end elevation at ground floor. Some contemporary joinery remains intact inside the house.
