Description
Mount Ebford is a detached house from the early 19th century, built by Thomas Huckell Lea for his widowed mother on the site of his father's pleasure house. The house is constructed of stuccoed brick and features a hipped slate roof that is concealed behind a parapet. It has a single depth plan with principal rooms on either side of a central entrance hall, and a rear wing with a stair turret in the internal angle of the L-shape formed by the layout. The building stands three storeys tall and has a moulded cornice and parapet that extend around the main range.
The windows are hornless sash windows, with 12 panes on the ground and first floors, and 3 panes on the second floor, arranged in a 6 down configuration. The front facade is symmetrical, with a layout of 2:1:2 bays, where the central bay projects. The central porch features Tuscan columns, pilasters, a pediment, and a cornice with paterae in the frieze, leading to a half-glazed door. The right-hand end of the house includes a three-storey bow, with each floor displaying a tripartite sash window. The left-hand side elevation has a range of five windows, and sash windows are also present on the rear wing. There is a later lean-to and a late 20th-century conservatory at the rear.
