Description

Jaycroft is a detached house dating from the late 16th century. It is likely constructed with cob on stone footings, and finished with roughcast render. The house has a pantiled gabled roof. Originally, it was a small, three-room, cross-passage plan house. It is one-and-a-half storeys high.

The front of the house has an irregular arrangement of windows; a low, four-light window breaks the eaves line on the upper floor, along with three late 20th-century two-light casement windows on the ground floor. A wide planked door leads to the cross passage. At the rear is a large external stack, situated laterally to the hall and featuring two sets of set-offs. There are three raking half-dormers – three on the upper floor, and three on the ground floor, with varying numbers of lights (one, two, and three respectively), alongside a late 20th-century French window.

Inside, remnants of a plank and muntin screen remain in the cross passage, towards the higher end of the house. This screen is chamfered and features a cranked arched doorway surround, though it no longer extends the full width of the house. A deeply chamfered cross beam is also present. The rear fireplace has been renewed. The roof structure consists of three jointed crucks, morticed and pegged at the apex, with collars also morticed and pegged.
