Description

Frost Cottage is a mid to late 17th-century cottage that was extended in the mid 20th century. It features plastered cob on rubble footings, a cob stack with a plastered brick chimney shaft, and a thatched roof. The small, gable-ended cottage faces northeast and consists of a small service room on the left (southeast) and a heated room on the right, which is served by a projecting end stack. The building is two storeys high and has a balanced front with two windows, which are late 19th to early 20th century casements with glazing bars. There are also two small inserted first-floor windows above a central door and a gabled porch with a thatched roof.

Inside, the main room features a cross beam that is chamfered with scroll stops at the rear, while the front has runout stops and thickens as it enters the wall with an ogee-moulded frame. The stone fireplace includes an oak lintel with runout stops and a brick oven on the left side. To the right of the fireplace, there is a small cupboard with pivoted fielded panel doors and a shaped shelf. The roof is a three-bay structure with A-frame trusses and pegged lap-jointed collars. The mid-20th century extensions to the right and the studio to the left add to the cottage, which contains surprisingly high-quality details.
