Description

Pilgrim Cottage is a mid-19th century cottage, modernised in the 20th century. The walls are plastered cob on rubble footings, with a rubble stack and a 20th-century brick chimney shaft, and the roof is thatched. It is a 2-room cottage facing east, with a larger, heated room to the left (south), and a 20th-century extension at the left end. The front facade has two windows on the upper storey and two windows on the ground floor, the upper storey windows being late 19th-century casements with glazing bars, and the ground floor right window a 20th-century replacement. The original central doorway has been blocked, and its 6-panel door is now used between the 20th-century extension and the main house. Inside, there is plain carpentry detail, including an unfinished crossbeam in the main room. A fireplace is blocked, but the projection of an oven is visible at the rear.
