Description

Seetington Cottage is a cottage dating from the mid- to late 17th century, with a 20th-century extension. It is located on the east side of Sidbury Hill, near Oldborough. The walls are plastered cob, built on rubble footings, with a probable cob stack topped with 20th-century brick. The roof is thatched. Originally a two-room cottage, it now has a one-room plan facing west, with the extension on the south end. A large stack projects from the north gable. The front has a symmetrical appearance with three 1980s casement windows featuring glazing bars. A central door is sheltered by an early 20th-century porch with a glass and gabled design. The roof is half-hipped on the right side. Inside, a narrow chamfered crossbeam with scroll stops to the right of the doorway indicates the location of a former crosswall. The main room on the left features a chamfered crossbeam with run-out stops, the same finish applied to the fireplace lintel. The left side of the fireplace has a 19th-century brick side oven with a cast iron door. The roof is supported by A-frame trusses constructed of halved tree trunks.
