Description

This building is a barn and animal house, which was later used as a piggery, located approximately 40 metres east of Hayne Barton Farmhouse. It dates from the mid to late 19th century, although the shell of the barn is earlier. The structure is made of cob on stone footings and has slate roofs, facing the farmyard to the west.

The barn is situated to the right and features a long, two-storey animal house that adjoins to the north. The barn walls are taller, and the roof is hipped at both ends. The front of the barn has been extensively rebuilt with late 19th-century brick over stone rubble. There are three large doors on the higher floor for loading from carts, with the outer two being secondary. The first floor has a single loading bay, and the barn is now open from the floor to a ten-bay king-post roof. The cob walls suggest that parts of the barn are older.

To the left is the animal house, which has a hipped roof at the left end. It features two large doors and three windows, which are ungazed mullioned windows with vertical iron bars, on the ground floor. The right door leads to a two-bay room that is separated from the rest by a cob wall. There are two loading bays on the first floor. This building is part of a planned, single-phase farmyard and is included for its group value.
