Description

Sweetham Bridge, also known as Lower Creedy Bridge, is a road bridge over the River Creedy, dating from the late 16th century. It is constructed of veined volcanic rubble and volcanic ashlar, with some Salcombe sandstone voussoirs. The bridge features two segmental arches, which are plain vaults with ashlar arch-rings in two orders, both of which are chamfered. A massive cutwater, made of large dressed stone concentrated towards the base, extends up to the parapet, creating deep refuges. The parapet is topped with volcanic stone coping. There are 19th-century iron ties that have been intruded into the southern arch.
