Description
This is a barn with an extension now used as a pigsty, located to the southeast of Copt Oak Farmhouse. It dates from the 17th century, with a 19th-century extension and alterations from the 19th to 20th centuries. The front wall retains some heavy timber studding with narrow brick infill, while the remainder has been rebuilt in brick. There is a high plinth of granite rubble at each gable end of the original barn. The roof is made of corrugated iron from the 20th century. The original barn consists of three bays, with a 19th-century brick bay to the left. The structure features irregular 20th-century doors, double doors, and windows. Inside, the main posts have heavy jowls and there are traces of tie beams, heavy queen strut trusses, and a single purlin roof with rough wind-braces. The main framing is double pegged. The 19th-century bay to the left is lofted and has a braced collar truss. A 20th-century outbuilding with a slate roof attached to the far left is not of special interest, nor are the 20th-century covered cattle yard adjacent to the rear or the farmhouse attached to the right.
