Description

A pair of houses located on Coventry Road, dating to circa 1830, representing a remodelling of an earlier building that was once a single house. The houses are constructed of red brick with a slate roof and brick chimneys. They extend over three storeys and include cellars, with two bays each.

A brick plinth is present, with some parts whitewashed, and the eaves are moulded brick. The windows are wooden casements with horizontal glazing bars, all renewed in the 20th century, and are set within cambered brick heads. The ground floor window on the left has been altered in the 20th century to a three-light wooden window with a transom and segmental head. Traces remain of blocked, narrower windows in the centre of the upper storeys. Cellar openings have segmental heads.

The front features two doorways: the left doorway has a 20th-century door, while the right doorway has a 19th-century flush-panelled door. Both are set within circa 1830 wooden doorcases featuring moulded jamb pilasters, a frieze, paterae, and flat cornice hoods supported by shaped brackets with paterae.

The interior of Number 11 retains circa 1830 slate fireplace surrounds with cornices, including paterae, fluting, and scroll ornament on the ground floor, and reeding on the first floor. A ground floor room also contains a corner cupboard with a dentil cornice. A rainwater head dated WW1786 was likely moved from Number 9 to Number 13.
