Description

Ivy Cottage is a house dating to around 1600, with significant raising and alterations in the early 20th century. The exterior is whitewashed render over granite, with a slate roof featuring ornamental ridge tiles and brick chimneys. Originally a two-storey building, it is now three storeys high, with two main bays. The ground and first floors have 3-light leaded windows to the left, and irregular single-light windows to the right. The second floor has three 3-light horizontal sliding sash windows. All windows are fitted with 20th-century ornamental shutters. A 20th-century door is located to the right of centre. The right gable has windows, one within a blocked doorway, while the left gable shows traces of a blocked ground floor window. A single-storey brick wing extends to the rear.

Inside, a large central chimney stack incorporates a winder staircase. The left bay features a deeply chamfered spine beam with simple stops, while the right bay has ovolo-moulded spine beams and some stop-chamfered joists. Stop-chamfered spine beams are found in the first floor rooms. The cottage was formerly known as Bailie's House.
