Description

Yeo Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with significant alterations made in 1723 and at various times thereafter. The building is constructed of cob with a stone plinth and is plastered, topped by a steeply pitched thatched roof with gabled ends, which extends into a catslide over a continuous rear outshut. The farmhouse has a symmetrical two-room double-depth plan that retains the through-passage, now containing the stairs. There are external end stacks, with the right-hand stack dated 1723.

The front elevation features a three-window range, although there is one larger blocked window on the first floor. All windows are 20th-century two-light casements, and there is a wide central planked door with a barred rectangular fanlight above. The end elevations also have 20th-century two-light windows, including a small garret leaded window, and the rear has a three-light window with ovolo moulded mullions and surrounds.

Inside, the right-hand room has a chamfered cross beam that noticeably splays to the rear, complete with run-out stops, and a fireplace with a chamfered lintel featuring hollow step stops. The central passage is very wide, while the left-hand room has a boxed beam. The roof consists of four trusses with morticed and pegged apexes, halved and pegged collars, and purlins and battening, all appearing to be from the 18th century, possibly from the 1723 alterations.
