Description

Frogmore Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with significant alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed of cob with a stone plinth and has a gabled-end slate roof. Originally, the house consisted of one main range, possibly following a three-room and cross passage plan, along with two end cross wings. One of these wings, located on the right side, was destroyed by fire in the 19th century, leaving the parlour wing, which forms an L-shaped plan. The building has two end stacks and an axial stack that backs onto the passage of the main range, as well as one internal lateral stack in the wing, all featuring brick shafts. The farmhouse is two storeys high.

The front elevation has a three-window range, with all windows being two and three-light timber casements from the 19th and 20th centuries. There is a porch with lattice work sides and a moulded, leaded roof. The wing has 19th-century two-light timber casement windows, one of which is blocked, and a three-light dairy window with a sun-shield supported by wooden diagonal struts.

Inside, the hall features three cross beams with ovolo mouldings and moulded jambs at the internal entrance. The fireplace has chamfered stone jambs and a replaced stone arched lintel beneath an original strainer arch. The roof consists of five bays with seven trusses, all made of sawn timber.
