Description
Nos. 11 and 12 are two houses that were formerly an inn, dating from the late 17th century. They are constructed from a mix of cob and stone, plastered, and feature a gabled-end double Roman clay patent tiled roof. The main elevation is long and includes an early 19th-century extension on the left and a 17th-century rear wing. The buildings are two storeys high.
The front has a five-window range but consists of two different builds. There is a nearly central porch that is slated and boarded, with one window above and two to the right, all positioned at the same level with lintels set well below the eaves. To the right of the porch, there are two ground-floor windows. On the left side, there are two upper windows that are higher than the others, along with two below. All window openings are of identical size and contain 19th-century timber, primarily horned sashes with eight panes above and eight panes below per sash window.
The rear wing features a large external end stack with a squared oven projection, and there is a two-light window on either side. It also has a slated lean-to and a rear internal stack for the main range. Inside, the room to the right of the entrance has two beams that are chamfered with hollow step stops. The rear wing contains an axial beam that is chamfered with scroll stops in one room, and a chamfered beam with run-out stops in the adjoining dairy room. An old fireplace is concealed, and there are remains of a 17th-century staircase with five turned balusters and a newel. The roof was not inspected, and the interior inspection was conducted only for number 11.
