Description
The Duntze Monument, dated 1795, is located approximately 3 metres north of the aisle of the Church of St Mary in Rockbeare. This monument, dedicated to the Duntze family, is made of limestone and stands about 3 metres high. It features a large vase with lobed sides shaped like slender leaves, a broad rim with a fretwork design, and a moulded lid. The monument is set on a square pedestal with a soffit-moulded lid. The panelled sides of the monument are inscribed with upper and lower case Roman serif lettering. The western side commemorates John Duntze, Bart., who died in 1795, and his wife, referred to as Lady Duntze, who passed away in 1789. The south side notes the death of their grandson James, who died at the age of 12 in 1800.
